The Executive Yuan and Related Subordinate Councils’ Shared Data Center was granted the ISO 20000 Certificate – The First Step to Build Government Cloud Computing framework
The Research, Development and Evaluation Commission (RDEC) held the “Executive Yuan and Related Subordinate Councils’ Shared Data Center” ISO 20000 certificate award ceremony. Executive Yuan Deputy Secretary-General Chen Ching-tsai, RDEC Deputy Minister Sung Yu-hsieh, and Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) Secretary-General Kao Xian-gue all referred to theshared data center as a pioneer of promoting cloud computing resource integration. To also fulfill the goal of “energy conservation and carbon reduction,” the shared data center is able to successfully integrate information resources among government agencies to create an interagency resource-sharing environment.
In order to increase the nation’s competitiveness, the government has started the information transformation process since 2005. Based on the premise of a seamless transformation, the RDEC has been proactively promoting the data centers integration. The idea of information resource integration and information-sharing services can be achieved through high-quality data center environment and international standard management system.
Currently, agencies include the Executive Yuan itself, Joint Services Centers, the RDEC, the CEPD, Mainland Affairs Council, Government Information Office, and Central Personnel Administration have moved their equipment and services into the shared data centers. The government’s goal is to consolidate resources and replace individual data centers with the highly secured, low-cost co-constructed data centers. The ultimate goal is to provide citizens with integrated interagency services.
In the past, all domestic agencies and groups received the ISO 20000 Certificates as individual organizations. The fact that the Executive Yuan, along with its related subordinate councils, got the certificate as a team is a testament to the seamless collaboration between several different government agencies. Furthermore, the birth of the shared data centers indicates a step forward in government cloud computing services.
